GET SMARTER

July classes offered for auditing or credit

MTSO is offering two courses for auditing or credit during the summer term.

Audit fees are $200 per class, with a reduced fee of $75 for those 60 or older. Auditors simply need to complete the brief non-credit application here. Both courses also can be taken for three hours’ credit at MTSO’s standard tuition rates.

American Christianity in Black and White, taught by Fully Affiliated Faculty Member Mark Kelly Tyler, examines the complex role that race has played in the Christian community in America from the nation’s founding to the present. It will meet both in person and virtually Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 14, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Women and the Ethics of Leadership, taught by Visiting Professor of Practical Theology Kate Common, focuses on women’s leadership from womanist, mujerista and feminist perspectives, incorporating ethical issues women face in arenas of work and ministry. It will meet virtually July 6, 13 and 20 (Thursdays), 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

COMMENCEMENT

Congratulations, class of 2023

MTSO honored degree and certificate recipients at our 61st commencement May 20. The commencement address was delivered by Jeff Woods, general secretary of American Baptist Churches USA and a fully affiliated MTSO faculty member.

The evening before commencement, graduating senior Nicole Hogarth preached the baccalaureate sermon.

Videos of both events, along with commencement photos, are available for viewing here.

Ordination and commissioning

Summer brings ministry milestones

Congratulations to our students and alumni who are celebrating significant steps in their ministry this summer. We have compiled a listing of those marking ordination, commissioning and other milestones within their denominations.

Please let us know if your name or information about where you are serving should be added by completing this brief online form. We will share this list online and in our upcoming issue of The Story Magazine and Annual Report.

New CSA season begins June 6

Take Seminary Hill Farm produce home to your table

A limited number of seasonal shares remain available for the Seminary Hill Farm Community Supported Agriculture season, which begins next week.

Each week during the farm’s 20-week season, CSA shareholders pick up bundles of produce with nine to 12 varieties of produce reflecting what has recently been harvested. Every Friday, shareholders receive a “fresh sheet” email that lists what they can expect to receive the following week.

The price for a full CSA season is $600 ($30 a week), with a single-month option for $140 ($35 a week). Pickups take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., either Tuesdays at MTSO or Thursdays in German Village.
