Mercadante and Flamm speak on 'The Rise of the Nones'
Two scholars consider the impact of the spiritual but not religious on American culture.
In celebration of Theological Libraries Month, Methodist Theological School in Ohio will host a joint presentation on those who consider themselves spiritual but not religious at 11:45 a.m. Oct. 3 in Room L-200 of the Dickhaut Library on the MTSO campus.
"The Rise of the Nones: The Impact of the Spiritual But Not Religious on American Culture" will be presented by Linda Mercadante, MTSO professor in the Straker Chair of Historical Theology, and Michael Flamm, professor of history at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Dr. Flamm will direct his attention to the historical and political aspects of the so-called SBNRs. Dr. Mercadante will expand on the group's sociological and theological characteristics. Each will speak for 20 minutes and then take questions from the audience.
These presentations mark the observance of Theological Libraries Month under the auspices of the Dickhaut Library.
Methodist Theological School in Ohio prepares leaders of many faith traditions for lives of significance in service to the church and the world.
